Boards dislike surprises. They dislike contradictions more. If the slide deck says twelve high findings remain and the audit issue tracking app shows nineteen, trust erodes on both sides of the table.

Why dual books appear

Someone exports a CSV on Tuesday, edits counts in a slide on Thursday, and presents on Friday. Meanwhile owners close three items and open two. Nobody is lying — the process simply has two clocks.

Freeze a reporting cut

Pick a cut-off time, export once, and stamp the export ID in both the deck and the tracker comment log. Narrative can still interpret; numbers should not be re-typed by hand.

Show movement, not only stock

Boards need opened vs closed in the period, not only a static total. Movement charts pulled from the same export reduce the urge to “smooth” awkward spikes.

Refuse silent reconciling

If finance or risk adjusts a figure after export, record the adjustment as a finding comment. Silent edits recreate the spreadsheet culture you bought the tracker to escape.

Module six of Finding to Closure walks through aligning dashboard views with live status so packs and apps stop telling different stories.
